Learning to a type all over again

Just starting to setup my new iPad. Thus far reminds me very much of the feeling when I first used an iPod touch/iPhone, a strange mix of excitement, bewilderment, amazement and possibility. Plus points so far ; the typing experience is far better than on iPhone. I bought the transformable case for the iPad which can be turned into a picture frame or a little wedge support which makes it much more comfortable to type on , in fact my feeling is that given time you could easily become a pretty efficient typist on a ‘pad.

The screen and battery life are amazing, and the speed of the ne A4 processor is wonderful. Still not sure that I’ve made the right decision regarding getting the non 3G model, only time will tell. The 802.11n seems to be nippy- it looks like the UK pads have benefitted from work to remove the wifi bugs that plagued the first batches of American iPads. All in all … With the hype? I’d have to say absolutely it’s is a whole new class of device and finally the tablet form factor makes sense. The question for me is which format is going to be under threat more- smartphone, net book or laptop……time will tell.

Jamie Cullum – F_c_ing Amazing

Went to see Jamie Cullum last night at the Royal Glasgow Concert Hall, in well Glasgow :-)   I’ve seen Jamie a few times, and am a real fan- he single handledly got me into Jazz::-P Anyway last night was a different venue from the last time, last time was in the Armadillo, but this time the Royal Concert Hall proved to be incredible (acoustically and in atmosphere which surprised me).

The evening started with yet another unknown warm up act who worn converse baseball boots, and was sans skirt :-) – Eliza Doolittle.  Stunning voice from a wee waif of a girl – and she seemed to have a great time. (Though good tip from my gigging cousin is – never let on to never having heard the main act’s music).

An interval and onto Jamie – A lot of the set list was form the new album, and all the better for it.  A few old classics- a solo performance of Frontin with just the man himself and a sampler was stunning (complete with beatboxing) and watching his support act just about destroy a Double Bass was another stand out.

I always love the impromptu stuff – see this pic for what I mean – and really in Glasgow you only need to invite them once and they will come. I love how listening to a tour of a new album makes you enjoy the album that bit more…. you got check out his re-arrangment of Tony’s Bennett’s classic If I rules the world- stunning!

The trend holds true- never seen a bad gig in Glasgow…..In this great city :-)

Explain what’s on this blog

So it’s been a few weeks since I wrote, and maybe you’d be expecting nothing to be on the blog, yet it’s overrun with tiny little one line posts.  You’ll know the posts, they are categorised as Tweets and have a category Mobblogging on them.  My main goal with this site, is that every bit of thought, or interaction, any rant, rave, any tune I like, or any music I buy should come through here- a repository of my life if you will.

I’m a big fan of twitter, again I have used it for a long time, and only now has it become “cool” – but I don’t mind.  Just wanted to put that out there so that everyone knows that even if I’m not blogging I’m still twittering.

A Brick, a Smoke and an Attitude Problem

An eventful day today.  Yesterday had decided that I would go to Stirling Audi myself to collect my newly refurbished A5 with it’s newly smoken alloys.  So awake bright and early, and on the road by 7.30.  Up by 8.30, car on road at 9.30 and back in Motherwell by 11.00 in time to start work, I thought.  Driving up the M80, and just passed the roadworks, the road started to clear out and open back up to 3 lanes.  I was so intent on getting into a faster moving lane that I didn’t see the massive brick in the road.

Thing is with debris- you only know you’ve hit it when you hear the sound, and at that point it’s already too late.  Pulled onto hard shoulder, and an hour wait till RAC got to me and changed the demo car onto a space saver.

Upshot is got to the garage around 10.00 and collected car – the alloys look great, see below:

Car is booked in with Robert at Prism detailing on Saturday to get brought to it’s sparkling best.  Some people (mainly girls) have pet names for their cars, others think they’re car looks macho.  My car  says “I’ve got a serious attitude problem ” – it’s probably why we get on so well :-)

Busy can be brilliant

I never did get those photos taken in Edinburgh the other weekend.  In fact, my camera barely came out if it’s bag save to take a couple of pictures of the car.  Not that in anyway I’m taking the lack of Baileyesque activity as a failure, but more a sign of a good weekend, doing absolutely nothing!  Was really good to catch up with Angela, Robert and Declan, and of course to see Musselburgh and Edinburgh again.  It’s funny, the more I go back to Edinburgh, the more I miss it, yet paradoxically the more I realise that Glasgow really is my home.  When I was at University, and living in Edinburgh, I always figured, that sure Glasgow was a little bit bigger, but that the cities were just two big cities.  The view I find myself with now is that Edinburgh is a collection of small towns, whilst Glasgow is the big bad metropolis of Scotland. (I’m sure I stole that quote off someone far smarter than myself, but what the hey.

Anyway, back in Glasgow now, at the Fort.  It’s so sad that there is no more Borders, I can’t believe that someone can’t reinvent the concept – Amazon perhaps?  Nonetheless, the Starbucks card, and free access to Wifi more than make up for it.  I feel like there are so many thing I want to write about here, but I don’t think it would be particularlly thrilling to log onto a blog with 400 articles – with 390 of them written in one day.  I’ll just throw a few words out that are on my mind or involved in:

MiFi from 3 : have replaced my T-Mobile 3G dongle with this service- amazing – after RTFM! :-)

quattros, quattros and quattros: some things never change.

Cisco and Vyatta: still ongoing, but being disrupted by life :-P
